Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 7 minutes

Total Time: 12 minutes

Servings: About 1 ½ cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • ½ tablespoon salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the sugar:

    • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the sugar. Allow it to melt, stirring occasionally, until it turns a smooth, amber-colored liquid (about 5 minutes).

  2. Add the butter:

    • Remove the pan from the heat and carefully whisk in the butter until fully combined and smooth.

  3. Add the cream:

    • Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Return the pan to medium heat and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

  4. Add the salt:

    • Remove from heat again and stir in the salt until dissolved.

  5. Cool and store:

    • Allow the caramel to cool completely before transferring it to a jar. Store in the refrigerator and use within a few days.

Tips

  • Total cook time should not exceed 7 minutes to prevent burning.

  • The caramel will thicken as it cools.
