Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes
Total Time: 12 minutes
Servings: About 1 ½ cups
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup heavy cream
½ tablespoon salt
Instructions
Melt the sugar:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the sugar. Allow it to melt, stirring occasionally, until it turns a smooth, amber-colored liquid (about 5 minutes).
Add the butter:
Remove the pan from the heat and carefully whisk in the butter until fully combined and smooth.
Add the cream:
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Return the pan to medium heat and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add the salt:
Remove from heat again and stir in the salt until dissolved.
Cool and store:
Allow the caramel to cool completely before transferring it to a jar. Store in the refrigerator and use within a few days.
Tips
Total cook time should not exceed 7 minutes to prevent burning.
The caramel will thicken as it cools.
